NEW CASITA
These Carlsbad clients wanted a guest house off the rear of the property. The city requirements at the time were that the granny flat or guest house could not be more than 800 square feet with a roof maximum roof height of 14 feet. This meant that we needed to design a space that felt as open and expansive as possible given the limited envelope that we had to work with.
This 1-bedroom Casita has a contemporary interior space with an open floor plan and vaulted ceilings. Skylights and a bank of transom windows just below the ceiling along one wall help to create a much brighter interior living space. In contrast to the contemporary interior, the exterior of the house is designed to complement the more traditional mission style of the main residence.
